J. SWITT AWARD
AT SLA CONFERENCE IN SEATTLE
Carol Stream, IL -- June 30, 2008. C. Berger Group, Inc.(CBG), one of
the nation’s oldest and largest library consulting and staffing firms,
recently announced that Cynthia (Cindy) Hill received the prestigious
Karen J. Switt Leadership Award at the Special Libraries Association (SLA)
99th annual conference in Seattle. CBG sponsored the prize for the
eighteenth year for the Leadership and Management Division (LMD). Joel
Patrick Berger, CBG President, presented the citation to Ms. Hill during
the LMD business meeting on June 16, 2008. The Award, instituted in
1988, recognizes a member's significant contributions to leadership in
the profession of information management over a five year period. CBG
funds a monetary gift and the LMD provides an etched crystal sculpture
to the recipient.
""This is
another feather in Cindy’s career hat,” said
Mr. Berger. “It acknowledges her dedication to the profession and her
accomplishments as a leader. Our Division is especially proud to honor
one of its own who is a natural-born leader, a tireless advocate of the
profession, professional, and is the consummate career example." Said
Ms. Hill, “I continue to be overwhelmed every time I think about being
awarded this recognition as I’ve admired and worked to emulate previous
recipients. I’m very honored and humbled by this recognition.”
Ms. Hill was selected because of her life-long commitment to learning,
innovation, and sharing, both within the Leadership and Management
Division but also the Special Libraries Association as a whole. Her
achievements include elected positions as SLA President, SLA Director,
SLA Secretary, numerous Chapter and Division positions and various
Association level committees. She is a recent winner of the H.W. Wilson
Company Award and is also a SLA Fellow.
Cindy is Vice President, Information
Management Services for Outsell, Inc. where
she serves
as an executive-level advisor and consultant to clients on issues such
as state-of-the-art information management and services
Before joining Outsell, Cindy managed Sun Microsystems, Inc’s Digital
Library and Research group for 12 years.
Ms. Hill received her Master of Information
Science degree in 1979 from San Jose State
University, where she also
serves as a part-time professor and sits on its Advisory Council. When
she’s not involved in professional activities, Cindy can be found
thundering down the highway on her motorcycle, hiking in the high
Sierras, or pushing her road bike pedals.
In addition to presenting the award, Joel Patrick Berger participated in
and attended various sessions in Seattle as well as being seen at
numerous Division open houses.

Libraries Association (SLA) is a nonprofit global organization for

The Karen J. Switt Leadership
Award is one of several prizes that CBG funds or sponsors annually for
professional librarians and support staff of distinction. They include
the Librarian of the Year for the Illinois Library Association each
fall, the Library Assistant Award at Reaching Forward South in Illinois
each September and the CBG Entrepreneurial Promise Awards, given to one
graduating librarian from each school of library and information science
at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, University of
Wisconsin at Madison and Dominican University in River Forest, IL.
