C. BERGER GROUP FUNDS FIRST ENTREPRENEURIAL PROMISE AWARD

CAROL STREAM, IL. C. Berger Group, Inc. the Midwest largest library personnel and information management service firm recently announced the first recipient of the C. Berger Group Entrepreneurial Promise Award conferred at the University of Illinois Graduate School of Library and Information Science. CBG fund the prize, given to a graduate of the program who exhibits unusual creativity, reflects an innovative spirit and shows the most promise for an outstanding career in a special library, nontraditional setting or as an entrepreneur. Anthony "Avi" Janssen was chosen by the GSLIS faculty because of his significant background in information technologies with which he integrated human centered approaches of the master's degree.

"CBG is pleased to honor acknowledge such a talented and ambitious graduate of the GSLIS program," said Carol A. Berger, C. Berger Group Inc. president. "It is easy to understand why he was recognized for his integration of communications and telecommunications, systems analysis and human systems and ethics and policy."

Professor Mike Twidale presented the citation on May 13, 2001 at convocation ceremonies held in Urbana, Illinois. He referred to Avi's intelligence, initiative and problem solving and remarked that his career illustrates the growing range of technological opportunities which clearly connect with the GSLIS's ongoing traditional focus on helping people gain access to information.

Mr. Janssen will be leaving his current position developing systems for the Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies in Chicago to begin a new career as a Systems Analysis in Information Management at Merc & Co. in Philadelphia. He also holds a BA from the University of Louisville (1993) in art history and religious studies, and a MA from New Your University in Hebrew and Judaic studies. He is a member of the Special Libraries Association, Illinois Chapter.
